Funding

Graduate students are in a tight place when it comes to finances. AGSES can help you! We can provide funding for students each year that pays for travel to professional events–conferences, interviews, and research opportunities.

Professional Skills

Looking to enter academia? What about industry? Whichever route you take as you pursue your graduate degree, you need to develop skills that showcase your professionalism. COE-GSO is here to help you with career development events, speakers, leadership opportunities, and more.

Networking

Academia is as much about who you know as it is about scholarly productivity. COE-GSO can help you network with faculty and provide you with funding to bring in speakers and researchers from other schools.

Community Building

Graduate school can be isolating and lonely. COE-GSO knows this, and we work hard to develop a sense of community among graduate students, both on-campus and for virtual learners. We host regular social events and community events to help you get to know your graduate student family.

What is "active membership"?

To become an Active Member and to maintain active membership, a you must attend two COE-GSO-sponsored events per academic semester (Fall or Spring). Active Members are eligible to receive any benefits of active membership beginning as soon as active member status is obtained. If there are no meetings or no events during the semester, there shall be no restriction on active member status, and all current members will be eligible for the benefits of active membership.

The benefits of active membership include but are not limited to:
  • Consideration for travel funding
  • Consideration for event funding
  • Nomination to a position on the Executive Committee
  • Increased networking opportunities among fellow graduate students and faculty
  • Voting on official organization business
  • Other benefits that may become available but are not explicitly indicated here
